The talented striker Jim Croqué, who spent one season in Leeuwarden, is now choosing a new adventure in Nijmegen.
Looking back on his time at SC Cambuur, Croqué describes the past season as a valuable learning experience: “This past season at SC Cambuur was a really educational period at the highest Under-21 level in the Netherlands. I think I had a good season. I experienced some great moments, times when I was starting regularly, playing a lot and also some more challenging periods. But I think that's part of it, and it’s one of my strengths: I always stay strong and keep going.”
On how he found out about NEC's interest, he shares: “After a trial period with Almere City, I was told that it wasn’t going to work out there at that moment. Then, about half an hour later, I got a call from Theo Doetawihardja saying that NEC was also interested in seeing me.”
The transition went smoothly, according to Croqué: “I trained with them twice and was told they really wanted to sign me.”
The decision to join NEC was an easy one: “It felt good, a nice group, a good coach. That made the decision easier. Gelderland is quite different from Leeuwarden. I played four years at Vitesse, so it’s a familiar and pleasant environment. It feels right, and I just want to give it my all and get noticed in the coming season. Hopefully, I can take the next step toward professional football soon, either with NEC’s first team or with Top Oss.”
Finally, Croqué expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received: “Of course, I want to thank Theo, Estafano, and everyone working behind the scenes at Status Pro Sport. My parents, my girlfriend, and everyone who supported me mentally during this time. It’s always a stressful period, but thanks to all of them, my family and friends, I got through it well. I’m grateful to have this opportunity and I’m ready to grab it with both hands.”
